  • The right paint color: Re-painting your cabinets is the best way to update old and outdated cabinets without too much effort but with less cost. Painting the cabinets is an inexpensive way to give the modern looks; you simply need to choose a color that complements your kitchen appliances.
  • Use a primer: Applying a primer or undercoat is recommended for almost all painting jobs which is designed for better adhesion so the paint sticks to the surface. It seals the material being painted so the paint doesn’t soak into the material requiring less coats as well as seal away blemishes and other discoloration.

Tips:

  • Clean the wood with grease remover first before painting to ensure the paint sticks
  • Label your cabinet doors as they need to go installed exactly in the same place where they were
  • Be patient to wait until the they’re completely dry before placing them back
  • Roll up the rugs, clear the countertops and remove the curtains before starting

Replacing the Cabinet Doors

Vinyl, wood, glass… there’s plenty of materials to choose from with numerous designs. Replacing the cabinet doors is the best way to give your kitchen especially your cabinets a whole new look. Though, take note, the interiors should still be firm and strong, if so, it might be better to just replace your cabinets.

Remove the doors altogether and convert existing cabinets to open shelving

Another alternative for homeowners with older cabinets in good condition is to remove the doors altogether and convert their existing cabinets to open shelving. The interiors of the cabinets can be sanded, painted or stained for a completely new and modern look but make sure your cabinets are deep enough to hold your saucepans or tall enough to accommodate your cookie trays, but if not, replacing them completely may be the better option.

Tips:

  • Display Items you love: Your everyday cups and plates are great candidates for open shelving because they are used and washed frequently which means dust have no place in them
  • Don’t overload your shelves: A jammed shelved full of stuff makes your while kitchen feel cluttered and isn’t just a sight to see
